THE GAZE invites a shift in conversation: the body itself is not the problem, nor something that requires justification. What truly reveals character is the gaze directed toward it. By placing agency firmly with the woman, the work reframes the dynamic—her freedom remains intact, while the responsibility for interpretation belongs to the observer.

I turn my back not to hide, but to own the view. Because the gaze is more defining than the subject. I assert autonomy.

A body does not perform for the gaze; it simply exists.
